Student Nutrition Services

Student Nutrition Services (SNS) department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals dedicated to promoting student health and well-being and to enriching student learning.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements, based on state and federal dietary guidelines. SNS aims to create an innovative, delicious, and cost effective student nutrition program that is nationally recognized. SNS operates as a self-supporting, $3.2 million dollar enterprise. Each day, more than 40 dedicated employees serve over 3000 nutritious meals to students…and the numbers keep growing. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards and accountability, while consistently exceeding the expectations of our families by providing delicious, nutritious meals at the lowest possible price.

SNS is proud of all its accomplishments and stand on three pillars:

Quality, Healthy Meals
We cook REAL food, not fast food. About 70% of everything that comes from our kitchen is made from scratch. We use some of the finest ingredients, most from local vendors. We purchase 55% of all produce locally to help support the farmers in our community. Our goal is to increase our purchases as we develop relationships with our local farms. We remain innovative and look for ways to produce new healthy recipes, for example we charbroil our own chicken to lock in flavor.
Excellent Service
SNS staff is dedicated to serving our students. Our food service professionals are educated in the areas of nutrition, customer service, safety and sanitation. We pride ourselves on delivering nutritious meals to students in a safe and friendly environment. SNS provides healthy school breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to students. We provide nutrition education and work with children who have special nutrition needs.
Supporting Education through Nutrition
Good nutrition is key to a healthy life. Studies show that students who are well nourished have increased attendance, higher academic success and are able to concentrate and perform at all levels at higher standards. We are proud of our accomplishments and look for ways to continue to improve.

Pandemic EBT - Deadline Extended to July 15.

Due to COVID 19, children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals at school will get extra food benefits through a State program called Pandemic EBT or P-EBT benefits. P-EBT benefits help families in California buy food when school is closed. Most families with children who receive CalFresh, Medi-Cal or Foster Care benefits do not need to apply because they will get their P-EBT card in the mail during the month of May. Families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals and who do NOT get CalFresh, Medi-Cal or Foster Care benefits must apply online before June 30, 2020. DJUSD is joining many other public agencies to share messaging with families about this important program.Apply at:
