Distance Learning and 1 to 1 Technology Initiative

Distance Learning

As we will be opening the 2020-21 school year with a full Distance Learning model, this requires that each DJUSD student has access to a working computer and a dependable internet connection at home. If one or more of your children does not have a working computer or internet, please reach out soon to the Technology Department for assistance. The department is open for walk-ins each week day between 8:00am and 3:00pm. Please contact Julie Ser, the Department Administrative Assistant with any questions at jser@djusd.net or (530)757-5300 x117.

1 to 1 Technology Initiative for Grades 3-12 (Please disregard if your child is a student at DaVinci)

When we return to in-person instruction, DJUSD will be implementing 1 to 1 Technology Initiative for students in grades 3-12. This means each student in grades 3-12 will be expected to have an individual device, available to them for instructional use. It will be expected that the device will travel with that student between home and campus each day (when in-person instruction begins). To achieve the 1 to 1 Technology Initiative for students in grades 3-12, parents of students in these grades may choose one of the following options:

  • Provide their student with a personal device with minimum specifications: Chromebook:  Minimum 4gb ram/memory and 16gb HDD/storage or Laptop:  Minimum 8gb ram/memory and 500gb HDD/storage
  • Purchase a new Chromebook for the student*Must visit and follow link on a computer and not a mobile device
  • Check out a DJUSD-issued Chromebook for individual use.

Parents of students in grades 3-12, were asked to indicate their preference for how to meet the 1 to 1 Technology Initiative for each child when completing the Online Re-Enrollment process (for example, they may indicate they will provide a device from home for one child but elect to check out a DJUSD device for another child). Students choosing to use a District-issued Chromebook for 1 to 1 are invited to come to the Technology Department M-F between 8:00am and 3:00pm to check out their device.

Information for Parents of students in Preschool through Grade 2

Students in preschool - Grade 2 will not be expected to participate in the 1 to 1 Technology Initiative. However, these students will need to be able to access a computer and internet at home for Distance Learning. When students are able to return to campus for in-person instruction, students in preschool through Grade 2 will have access to Chromebooks shared among classrooms on campus but will not be expected to have a personal device.
