Alternative Instructional Model (AIM)

(Formerly Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program)
DJUSD serves the  needs of intellectually gifted students through our Alternative Instructional Model (AIM) program. Beginning in 4th grade, the program provides instructional support,  including differentiation in the neighborhood classroom, consultation with subject area specialists and coaches,  individualized learning plans, and cluster/ self-contained AIM classrooms. Additional classes (including Honors and AP ) are also open to high-achieving students at the Junior High and High School levels. Students are identified as "intellectually gifted" through our District identification process.  "High achieving" students are measured by performance on tests of academic achievement and/or class performance.

AIM classes, which may be self-contained or cluster classes, serve intellectually gifted students in grades 4-6 at Pioneer and Willett Elementary Schools, grades 7-9 at Holmes, Harper and Emerson Junior High Schools and grade 10 at Davis Senior High School for English 10 only.

The AIM program is overseen by the Instructional Services Department.  For commonly asked questions, please refer to the AIM (GATE) FAQ page.
