teacher and class

Earn your credential while gaining valuable classroom experience in an apprenticeship while receiving tuition reimbursement.

Innovative Approach

Yolo Teacher Residency (YTR) is a one and a half to two year, full-time Special Education Teacher Credential program that recruits talented college graduates, career changers, and community members and gives them the tools they need to make an immediate impact in the classrooms of Yolo County Schools, which include:

  • Davis Joint Unified School District
  • Esparto Unified School District

  • Washington Unified School District (West Sacramento)

  • Winters Unified School District

  • Woodland Joint Unified School District

  • Yolo County Office of Education.

YTR provides every resident with a classroom apprenticeship in a Yolo County School with targeted master’s-level coursework from Sacramento State University, and more than $16,000 in tuition reimbursement! Every Teacher Resident receives practical learning, hands-on experience, and ongoing support essential to any successful career in teaching.

If you are a special education para-educator in a Yolo County School District you may be eligible to continue in your position while completing the program!

A Strong Foundation

During the two years of service, Teacher Residents:
  • Co-teach with collaborating teachers and experienced teacher educators
  • Earn CA Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in Special Education - Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe or Early Childhood.
