Holiday Tidings

Superintendent BowesWith the Winter Break almost upon us, we are looking forward to a much anticipated time of rest. Schools and offices are closed from December 21 through January 5, providing an opportunity for all of us to reconnect, recharge and enjoy the special people in our lives.

Even as our classrooms and offices close for the break, DJUSD facility crews will be completing important work on our grounds and buildings to keep our campuses clean and safe, and to allow for minimal construction impact on students during academic learning times. As you see them about town, please take a moment to express your appreciation to the hardworking members of our maintenance teams and construction partners as they make a real difference for our schools and our students.

In addition to normal winter maintenance projects happening across our District and other important improvements including the Davis Senior High stadium turf replacement, our DJUSD Bond Program is now underway. Thank you to the Davis community for the passage of the Measure M facilities bond just over a year ago. Measure M funds will provide an enduring gift to our students and staff through long-awaited facilities and modernization projects for our campuses. I encourage you to visit our website at www.djusd.net/bond to learn more about the DJUSD Bond Program and to subscribe to our new bond e-newsletter.

While this season brings many reasons to celebrate and be joyful, I’d like to recognize that this time of year can be challenging for many of us. The pressures of the season can cause feelings of isolation, without enough time to connect, socialize, and support others as we may intend. In addition, the holidays may bring on feelings of stress and anxiety related to family, finances, and commitments. I am so thankful that our schools are special places overflowing with people who remain dedicated to creating space for all students and families to belong. It is especially this time of year when we need to look to each other for support, and make an extra effort to look out for one another.

As we reflect on the moments of this season, remember that one way we measure our impact is by the relationships we build. Each one of us possesses individual gifts and can find ways to share these with others in our schools and community. I also encourage you to take time to express your appreciation to those who have helped you this year and to spread good cheer and gratitude throughout this season and the new year.

A happy Winter Break to each of you.

Warmly,

John A. Bowes, Ed. D.

Atentamente,

John A. Bowes, Ed. D.
