On the last Friday of September every year, our District and the State of California recognize California Native American Day. Established in 1968 by Governor Ronald Reagan and officially made a California state holiday in 1998 by Governor Pete Wilson, California Native American Day celebrates the resiliency, spirit, tenacity, and sovereignty of the 110 Federally Recognized Tribes and dozens of unrecognized tribal communities throughout the State of California.
